70’s Festival Wedding Vibes!

This is one wedding that definitely gets my vote for breaking all the rules! Gorgeous couple Bec and Andrew totally threw away the rule book (and the marquee!!), in favour of a 70’s inspired, outdoor festival wedding. Think fields of daisies, sweet words of love whispered by babbling brooks, outdoor lounging and dancing under a velvet sky till the wee small hours. I can almost smell the patchouli from here!

From the moment we heard Bec’s brief we knew this wedding would be a goodie and this super stylish duo certainly didn’t disappoint!

With magnificent florals by the talented Charlotte of Rock n Rosie, Bec and Andrew’s wedding was captured beautifully by clever lens lady Erin of Acorn Studio NZ, we guarantee you’ll fall in love with this relaxed wedding with a stunning colour palette and 70’s feel.

When it came to the venue, the Wairua Scout camp out on the Taieri Plains was the perfect choice for the relaxed, laid back, retro vibe that Bec and Andrew were looking for. Grassy fields surround by shady oaks and a bubbling stream provided the perfect canvas for relaxed seating, festoon lighting, food trucks and snuggling under blankets late into the night!!

Bec and Andrew cancelled their marquee booking to create that relaxed outdoor festival vibe.

Anyone familiar with Dunedin’s notoriously unpredictable weather knows that planning an uncovered outdoor wedding in Dunedin is a risk but with contingency plans in place Bec and Andrew continued and were blessed with one of the summers most magnificent days!

To help achieve their vision Bec and Andrew hired our restored vintage rimu daybeds and lounge furniture as well as our locally milled wooden trestles, replica Bruno Pollock chairs and bar leaners.

As both the ceremony and reception were held at the Scout Camp it made sense to differentiate the two parts of the wedding by using separate spaces of the venue.

A relaxed ceremony area framed by magnificent mature trees and a gentle stream was created using our Bruno Pollock chairs (later transferred to the reception area) as well as our Oak and Rimu pedestals to hold those stunning florals!!

Thoughtfully looking after the little details, Bec ensured guest comfort was taken care of by hiring our snuggly wool blankets to ward off chills later in the evening. For Bec and Andrew our furniture was perfect for the vibe they wanted, “relaxed, comfortable, yet having style and character”.

We loved this wedding and the braveness of Bec and Andrew to totally throw the rule book away and do things the way they wanted it.

Here at Swell we’ll also be forever grateful for Bec "seeing" our vision through the restoration phase of our daybeds and being the first bride to say “yes please I’ll have those!!”.
