Modern Coastal With A Bohemian Twist!

Sometimes you meet a couple and you just know that they're going to create something very special.

Not only did Hanna and Matas pull off a stunning, modern coastal bohemian styled wedding but these two cute love birds cleverly incorporated a mix of traditional North American wedding perspectives (with Lithuanian influences) along with "Kiwi wedding perspectives." Phew!!

As Hanna admits, "it took a “lot of organisation and decision making” before they were able to settle on their fresh, wedding theme and style.  “The vision was a bit boho, a bit botanical and a bit rustic. We were very lucky everything came together so well because we had a lot of moving parts!”  Hanna credits Matas' "cool as a cucumber attitude" for keeping them on track and reining her in when needed!!

Hanna and Matas chose the very talented Rachel Wybrow to photograph their day and I think you'll agree she did a beautiful job of capturing all those "moving parts" that Hanna fondly refers to!

The venue for both the ceremony and reception was the beautiful seaside Tautuku Fishing Club nestled in to one of Dunedin's most rugged points in the Otago Peninsula.

Hanna found starting with a blank canvas daunting as one of the other challenges encountered was that the space was pretty big.

“We wanted to make sure we filled the venue nicely. We decided beautiful tables & chairs were very important, as we knew that would set up the styling.

Locking in tables from Swell was important to the couple as this helped provided focus for the decorations and the look of the wedding styling. The tables were so super key – an absolute godsend. The ‘look’ just wouldn’t have worked without those tables.

Everyone commented on how beautiful they were – we agreed"!

Special Moment

Hanna and Matas’ talented Mums also made macramé hangers and placemats, dried flower arrangements, and borrowed various house plants to enhance the style.

Hanna’s Auntie gathered all the flowers & greenery from her crib on the Otago Peninsula to make the large fresh flower arrangements.

"It was just the best feeling looking around the room and knowing that every piece was made by one of our amazing family members/friends".

Here at Swell we love the way that Hannah and Matas reinterpreted the boho theme and transformed the existing space into something extraordinary that felt fresh and contemporary but still suited the coastal venue.

We adore the use of succulents and dried flowers on the tables. Our tables looked thoroughly modern yet still achieved Hanna and Matas’ vision of boho.

We love working in spaces with so much potential and seeing a well-loved style given a modern makeover!

Have a chat to us if you'd like to recreate the look.
